Something New

June 17, 2013

By age 66 little seems to be that “new.”. Saturday we started to a graduation party in the rain that picked up intensity as we crossed the Mississippi. Roads we traveled for 10 years in this part of the city suddenly started flooding so we decided to return home via a different road through a golf course. As I turned the corner, I saw a fountain of water shooting into the air in the middle of the street. Dodging the fountain of water, we met a river out of nowhere crossing a road and a car with water over the floorboard, floundered. Turning we saw a fountain shooting six feet into the air in the middle of an archery area. Where is the high ground in the middle of the city?? We dodged fountains of bubbling water and flooded streets and stuck cars for the next half hour to find a way to cross back across the Mississippi to a sunny side. I have seen rivers rise and “flood.”. I have never seen one area in the middle of a city become a flood zone. The waters of the deep opened up. New things do happen in our lives!
